Advanced Trigger Point Dry Needling Training

Level II Course Description:

An advanced course which builds upon the techniques learned in the Level I course. Participants are required to take the introductory Level I course and fulfill specific requirements prior to becoming eligible for this course. Topics to be covered include advanced musculature and extensive techniques, application of techniques for specific diagnoses, and further review of supporting research.

* Note to Colorado Physical Therapists: Department of Regulatory Agency requires 46 hours of training to be completed with 6-8 months of beginning course work. These courses fulfill DORA’s requirements.

Course Details

This course (27.5 contact hours) is a continuation of the Level I course and consists of a combination of lecture, testing, demonstration and a large amount of hands-on laboratory sessions. For this advanced course, participants will use the skills they have learned and practiced in the first course to treat musculature that was deemed more difficult due to various safety concerns.

Pre-Requisites:

Completion of level 1 TDN and 200 TDN treatment sessions logged.

Course Objectives :

• Define trigger points, motor banding, and neurological presentations of neuromuscular dysfunction.
• Review literature supporting efficacy and treatment rationale of TDN.
• Instruct application of TDN for more advanced orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions.
• Review anatomy of regions to be taught in Level II course.
• Discuss participants with their own experiences regarding legal and billing issues integrating TDN into their practice setting.
• Discuss safety.
• Discuss indications and contraindications for treatment.
• Discuss specific treatment rationale for various diagnoses.

What are some of the conditions I can treat after completion of these courses?

The focus of the level I course is treatment for pain management and sport related injuries. Participants successfully completing the Level One and Two courses will be able to treat pain and dysfunction originating from myofascial active trigger points that can lead to conditions such as; tendonopathies, movement impairments and other orthopaedic and sporting conditions of the following areas:

Who would benefit from this course?

Physical therapists, medical doctors, and doctors of osteopathy who work with patients suffering from chronic musculoskeletal conditions. This course will be limited to people who have taken the Level I course, have completed their treatment logs consisting of 200 or more treatment sessions over a 5-6 month period.

Prior to the course participants should review

• C. Chan Gunn’s book Treatment of Chronic Pain
• Travell and Simons two volumes of Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual.
  

Participants should also be prepared to share their experiences since integrating TDN into their practice.
